PR Programs in Canada

Express Entry

It is a federal stream open to anyone interested in obtaining permanent residency in Canada. It administers applications in four categories: Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and various Provincial Nominee Programs.

Provincial Nominee Program

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) enable provinces to attract certain newcomers to their territory. Most provinces have a scheme to attract qualified individuals and new businesses to their region. Some of the common PNPs attempt to recruit self-employed farmers, health care professionals, overseas students, semi- or low-skilled workers, or have relaxed residency requirements in specific regions.

Self-Employed Farmer

All candidates must demonstrate that they have the farm management skills necessary to successfully operate a farm in Alberta. To do so, AINP requires all candidates to present financial papers for their current farming business, as well as proof of education, training, and job experience in farm management. Candidates for this stream must also submit a detailed business plan explaining their Alberta farm idea. Proof that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance the planned farming enterprise must be included in this proposal.

Family Sponsorship

You can sponsor your family member to Canada if you are at least 18 years old and a Canadian citizen or anyone enrolled as an Indian in Canada under the Canadian Indian Act, or a permanent resident of Canada

What is Permanent Residence in Canada?

Permanent resident status in Canada allows you to live permanently in the country if you remain for two years every five years. Furthermore, you will be awarded the same rights as Canadian citizens, with the exception of the capacity to vote or run for office.

How long does the PR process take?

Processing periods vary depending on the program to which you are applying. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) aspires to complete permanent residency petitions through Express Entry programs in six months or less. Processing timelines for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Quebec, and other federal skilled worker programs might take six months or longer. Family class applications typically take 12 months to process (but this can vary).

How many points are required for Canadian PR?

It is determined by the program for which you are applying. Expression of Interest systems, such as Express Entry and those run by the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and Quebec, do not have a points need to be a successful immigrant. You may need to meet a criterion to be eligible for an Expression of Interest program, but once in the EOI pool, the government will invite the best scoring individuals depending on their profile. As a result, the cut-off scores will vary depending on the government's policy objectives. Non-EOI skilled worker programs, on the other hand, have points thresholds and will grant you permanent residence if you meet the threshold and all other eligibility criteria. The points required to gain Canadian permanent residence (PR) vary depends on the program.
